On 9 June 2022, artist Trey Abdella joined forces with curator and X Museum director Michael Xufu Huang for an online guided tour on the museum’s social media platforms. The two guests led the audience through the exhibition, walking them through the vivid imageries of Abdella’s work. The tour was later followed with an open dialogue, in which the artist and curator shared the behind-the scenes stories and discussed the details of Abdella’s practice. During the event, the audience followed the artist and curator’s footsteps as they retraced the artist’s experience of moving from West Virginia to New York to live and work, and in doing so, experienced the joy, excitement, embarrassment, disgust and fear portrayed in his work. These breath-taking moments of everyday life flew through the images of Abdella’s paintings, telling the story of the complex emotions that everyone can relate to in some way or another, eliciting empathy from many participants across cultures and borders.About The Artists
